of the stolen marvel -- sulla meraviglia rubata

(September 2006, Tokyo, anyone sees it, let me know)

So my bike is gone. My beautiful white trek city-bike, faithful travelling companion of countless adventures has been stolen.
Having moved over and over, I learned not to get too attached to physical objects, but I loved this bike. We were together for 17 years on three different continents.

I rode it in Princeton by the canal with my toddler son strapped in the baby-seat, while he sang with his rosy cheeks in the chilly air.

I rode it in Zürich with my toddler daughter strapped in the same baby-seat while I took her to baby-ballet classes.

I rode it in Tokyo with the petals of the sakura trees in my face, exploring the city when I was still too scared of earthquakes to ride on the subway.

I rode it from our 7th home to our 8th, when for once we moved within the same neighborhood and there was no space left in the moving truck.

And then in Zürich again, when I went through the emotional rite of passage of removing the baby-seat that for quite some time had been used for groceries only, and with my Freitag bag swung on my back I went back to my badass former identity, and to work, on my bike, with the wind in my face.

I know now would be the time to start making a list of all the painful curses that the person who stole it rightfully deserves, but no. I did not suffer through the whole 40 days of lent with no chocolate just to take such a blow on my karma.
I just hope that whoever has it will treat it well, it is a marvelous machine, not unlike those magic bikes that took off to save ET.
Although I hate that move.
It’s just the boys who were chosen by Spielberg to go on the final mission to save ET.
Jerk.

(This will not affect my karma because it’s the truth).

------------------------------

Siamo state insieme per 17 anni su 3 continenti.
