It was the summer of 69 -- It was the summer of 69

With 5 concerts under my belt, I can say that Bryan Adams is the singer I have seen perform live the most.
The first time it was in Milan in 1994 when I was still in university. Bryan is a mega-fantastic-superstar but let's face it, he's no spring chicken. And that's why as soon as I knew he was coming to Zürich for his GET UP tour, I got myself two tickets, fearful as I am that sooner or later e will announce his retirement from the live scene, a tragedy of such magnitude that I cannot even begin to imagine.
But I must say that being vegan, at 57 Bryan Adams looks a-fucking-mazing, which prompted me to immediately start feeding tofu to my husband at any given chance.

Anyway, just recently while going through some old stuff I had come across the Reckless tape I had bought in London when I was 14, at a mega record store in Oxford Street, a clear sign from above, which helped me devise a perfect plan: I would go to the concert with my daughter who is also 14, and in order to properly introduce her to a lifetime of live concerts, I decided to do things right and go full groupie!

So, last Thursday, there we were, already queuing outside of Hallenstadion 5 hours ahead of time, I even excused her from school saying she was "not well", and don't start being all judgemental now, even my mom had nothing to say about this ('cos I didn't tell her...)

After a 3-hour wait the doors opened and we ran. Ran like Karl Lewis going for gold, elbowing everyone who happened to be in our way, fierce, no mercy, and then... it was FIRST ROW!

It's a matter of 20 seconds, win or lose.
We caught our breath and cried a bit because of the adrenaline rush. Then we shared an apple to survive extreme dehydration since we had had NOTHING to drink since breakfast (sure as hell we are not giving up our front row spot for something as trivial as a toilet run).

Two hours later, it was Bryan, at arm-reach from us, blasting the night away. And this is the effect of the first row: as soon as the music started, the 12.998 people behind us disappeared, it was just Bryan and us!

And as I watched his fingers move on his guitar playing all the songs I know by heart, I felt my daughter's hand on my arm, overwhelmed as she also was by the whole experience and by being so very close to stardom. And I thought that maybe when she is big, she too will bring her daughter to see Justin Bieber in concert and tell her she's loved him for 30 years, and this thought moved me to tears.
But then Bryan sang "18 till I die" and then I knew! Of course! I will be there with them watching Justin Bieber, running those frenzied 20 seconds to make it to the first row. I will be the grandma singing along to all the songs, with the blue hair and the glass of white wine in her hand.

-------------------
