of the third mosaic -- sul terzo mosaico

I've read this wonderfully inspiring quote about different cultures: they are like mosaics, in order to see what they are made of, you need to come close enough.
It made me think of the famous "third culture kids" definition of expat children.
Are all expats part of the "third culture"?
It's an expression that never fails to irritate me.
It's simply a fancy definition for "a random flow of adventurous spirits in various degrees of confusion".
This is a more realistic definition for us expat.
But let's call it "third culture" for simplicity's sake, and let's consider ourselves a mosaic.
Even the best intentioned observer after taking a look, will soon discover that with a widespread confusion of such magnitude,  he/she is bound do feel dizzy and leave us alone.
But like we say in Italian, among two contenders, IT'S THE THIRD WHO HAS THE MOST FUN.

------------------------------------------------------
