of zombies and eclipses -- sugli zombie e le eclissi

So my kids attend an international school which has a straightforwardness I really like, it does not care much about phoney political correctness, Christmas is called Christmas even in the presence of other religions, for the simple reason that it's its name.
At the beginning of the school year, my son's class organised an adventure-day to help the new kids fit in right away. Typically quite a few new kids attend International schools each year due to expatriates' silly habit of not being able to stick to one county for too long.

The kids went to a paintball arena and shot the hell out of each other until they looked like multicoloured zombies.
The most reckless of all was the teacher accompanying them, who in the Gopro video they filmed (at least until the camera too was covered in paint) looks like a mad Rambo on cocaine.
Of course they had a blast. The parents were not required to sign any liability papers, only permission for the kids to skip school for one day.
One of the new kids, who just moved here from America, could not believe his luck. He said in his home country there is no way in hell that the school would ever allow something like that.  He said one of his school mates had been suspended and sent to psychological evaluation for writing in an essay that he liked zombie movies.

My son asked me what I thought about this. A teenager requesting a parent's opinion on any given subject is an event with the same likeliness of a solar eclipse.  Words need to be weighed carefully, because, just like in the case of an eclipse, the chances of this happening again in our lifetime are quite slim.

So I said: sure these measures are a consequence of all the episodes of gun violence plaguing this kid's home country. But for me they are missing the point. It's kind of like trying to lose weight by eating sugar because it's fat-free:
It is true.
It is pertinent with the issue we are trying to sort out.
It addresses it somewhat.
But it's just fucking stupid.

To which my son replied, with the enthusiasm he admittedly reserves to my opinions when they are dignified by the extra glamour of a swearword:
EXACTLY.

------------------------------------------

ESATTAMENTE.
